Net Neutrality - Not Made in the USA?

For a great overview of the issue, check out Wikipedia's Net Neutrality page.

Why should we care about net neutrality? I can't speak for everyone, but I can tell you how I feel.

I am a freelancer who works from home and whose main source of business is through websites, job boards, and message groups. The primary way I advertise my business, currently, is online. The Internet has leveled the playing field for a lot of people; the virtual assistance industry would not exist in its present form without that level field. If I have to compete with a marketing firm downtown for load times, well, we know who will win.

Before you know it my dream will be nothing but red ink and back taxes, something to think about when I have to leave my child in daycare to go fill out job applications, probably at that firm downtown...

I agree - this issue is very hot right now and rightfully so. It doesn't only affect the VA industry, but our clients as well. Most of my clients are small and medium sized businesses. They can't compete with the big boys... I'll honestly be really surprised if this happens; but maybe that's just me with my head in the sand ;)

Unfortunately, we are losing ground fast. Please continue to keep this issue in front of your family, friends, clients, everyone you can and directing them to the sites that are collecting signatures. I've also been informed that contacting the SBA's Office of Advocacy and letting them know how you feel about this topic can have a real impact. If enough people raise their voice, they will act on behalf of small business and take a more energetic part of the proceedings that are going on right now under our noses.
